Der Diamant befindet sich in dem Besitz der indischen Prinzessin Dala (Claudia Cardinale). Clouseau ahnt nicht, dass seine schöne Frau Simone (Capucine) ein Verhältnis mit dem Gentleman-Gauner Sir Charles (David Niven) hat - und dessen Komplizin ist. Auch George (Robert Wagner), der Neffe von Sir Charles, ist hinter dem Diamanten her.
