Jahrhunderts entdeckt der irische Schausteller Angus Shaw (Rufus Sewell) und seine Frau Lilian (Carla Gugino), bei einem alten Mann, eine in Gefangenschaft lebende Meerjungfrau. Für Angus steht von nun an fest, daß er diese Attraktion unbedingt haben will und stiehlt diese. Doch bei der Überfahrt über den Atlantik nach Amerika kommt es zu plötzlichen Todesfälle auf dem Schiff und eine Flucht scheint aussichtslos...
