Der Pariser Gynäkologe Alain Gaash ist zwar ein Sohn jüdischer Einwanderer aus Litauen, hat es aber mit der Religion nie besonders genau genommen. Nun jedoch entdeckt anlässlich einer Reise in Heilige Land seine durch ihn erst zum Judentum konvertierte Ehefrau ihre israelische Ader und verliebt sich dergestalt in Land und Leute, dass sie Alain vor die Wahl stellt. Entweder Scheidung oder Auswandern ins Land der Orangenbäume. Notgedrungen entscheidet sich Alain für letzteres - und bezahlt erstmal Lehrgeld.
