Gabriella ist davon nicht begeistert, denn sie ahnt, das Sharpay in Wahrheit versucht, einen Keil zwischen ihr und Troy zu treiben. Sharpays Eltern spielen bei diesem Spiel mit und nehmen Troy dermaßen in Beschlag, dass er kaum noch Zeit für Gabriella und seine Freunde hat. Troy will nicht wahrhaben, dass er sich in letzter Zeit ziemlich verändert hat und stößt sogar Gabriella dermaßen vor den Kopf, dass sie den Club verlässt. Am Abend eines Talentwettbewerbs treffen die beiden wieder aufeinander.
