Doch wie es kommt im Leben, steht sie plötzlich zwischen zwei Männern, dem charmanten, geschiedenen und schon etwas älteren Ray Porter (Steve Martin) und dem um seine Existenz kämpfenden jungen Musiker Jeremy (Jason Schwartzman). Obwohl sie sich in Ray verliebt, muß Mirabelle bald einsehen, daß eine grundlegende Entscheidung für ihr weiteres Leben von ihr gefordert ist.
Mirabelle is a disenchanted salesgirl and aspiring artist who sells gloves and accessories at a department store. She has two men in her life: wealthy divorcée Ray Porter and struggling musician Jeremy.
