Lain ist eigentlich eine ganz normale Schülerin, die ein ganz normales Leben führt. Doch eine Woche nach dem tragischen Selbstmord einer Mitschülerin aus ihrer Klasse, bekommen einige Schüler plötzlich E-Mails von der Toten. Auch scheint irgend etwas mit der Welt nicht in Ordnung zu sein, denn immer öfter sieht sie seltsame Bilder von menschenleeren Orten und diffusen Gestalten. Lain muss feststellen, das vieles in ihrem Leben anders ist, als sie bisher dachte.
