DDR-Sportler Eric Brogar (Dolph Lundgren) ist seit seiner Kindheit auf Höchstleistung trainiert worden. Doch während der Olympiade, an der Eric im Fünfkampf teilnimmt, versuchen Eric und ein Freund in die USA zu entkommen. Eric gelingt die Flucht, während sein Freund getötet wird. Eric schlägt sich als Imbissbudenkoch durch bis sein Chef hinter die sportlichen Fähigkeiten seines Angestellten kommt. Er will Eric wieder in Höchstform bringen und aus dessen Können Kapital schlagen. Doch Erics ehemaliger DDR-Trainer Mueller (David Soul) erfährt dadurch vom Aufenthaltsort seines Schützlings. Da Mueller sich noch an Eric für die Flucht rächen will, muss dieser bald sein Leben verteidigen...

When East German Eric Brogar (Dolph Lundgren) wins a gold medal in the pentathlon, he escapes to freedom in the west with the help of a beautiful American athlete. But his demanding coach, Heinrich Mueller (David Soul) vows revenge and Eric's best friend and his father pay the ultimate price for his freedom when they are killed by the Secret Police. In Los Angeles, Eric starts to train for the gold again. But when Mueller comes to America, Eric must win the most deadly game of all… the fight for his life.
