Die Möglichkeit über ein Amateurfunkgerät aus dem Jahr 1996 ins Jahr 2016 miteinander zu kommunizieren, gibt der mittlerweile erwachsenen Raimy die Möglichkeit, sich ihrem Vater wieder anzunähern. Doch dann hat der „Butterfly Effect“ ungeahnte Konsequenzen und stürzt die Seriengegenwart ins Chaos.
Frequency surrounds Detective Raimy Sullivan who has always wanted to prove that she is nothing like her father. Frank's former partner, Lieutenant Satch Reyna, is now Raimy's mentor and friend, and he has urged her to let go of the hurt and anger she still feels about Frank's disappearance and death, but the old pain still lingers.
